Materva and Jupiña - cuban soft drinks

Materva and Jupiña are traditional Cuban soft drinks.

Materva is made from yerba mate, a tea popular in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Materva is very popular among Cubans and other Hispanics in the United States.

The Materva Soft Drink Company was founded in Matanzas, Cuba, in 1920. It was produced and sold in Cuba until 1960, when the Cuban Revolution brought about the nationalization of all private industry. The rights to the drink were bought out by the competing Cawy Bottling Company of Miami in 1965. In 2002, Materva was given the "Best Local Soft Drink" award by the Miami New Times.

Cafe Havana - Work in Progress

Finally our menu is posted here. Scroll down and you will see it below.
The cafe image is still work in progress. We don't even have menu boards not to talk about the signage outside. We are working to get all of these ready very soon, with the help of Gustavo Quintini and Yails. However the food is getting us there. I can tell you that the 'Pan con Lechon' sandwich is a favourite already and the Pizza Habanera has been also very successful among Latinos and Canadians alike.

Thank you

Our families are really grateful to God for putting on our way so many wonderful people to help us throughout this journey. We couldn't call them less than dear friends.
We want to thank Lilian Gutierrez, our real estate agent and our lawyer M. Malicki and his terrific assistant Ann for being there for us with their experience and words of wisdom.
Thank you to all our friends: Nataly and Fernando, Yails and Elizabet in Oakville; Annabel, Vilma and Sonia in Miami; Tammy, Rayssa, Olga (Mexico), Anibal (Peru), Jose Luis (Venezuela)...Yury(Colombia), thank you for spreading the word.
To the Cuban and Venezuelan community in Oakville, you are our heartbeat.
To our family, friends and neighbours, thank you.

The Birth of a Dream

We started dreaming about Cafe Havana or I should say about a Cuban restaurant in Toronto, when my sister Dalia came with her family to Canada. It was just a dream, when we started searching online, gathering information and the ideas started flowing. Three years later and a dozen places designed on our minds, we found a place we couldn't let go: the price was good and the location was what we were looking for. Cafe Havana was finally here and it was born under a snow storm on February 2, 2011.
